What is the Site Planner?

Discover how landscape pros use the Site Planner for aerial-view measurements, material calculations, and accurate estimates, all from a satellite or uploaded image.

Beta Feature Notice

The Site Planner is currently in early Beta. Features will be added, changed, or removed without notice as we continue to develop and refine this tool based on your feedback. Some of the things described in this guide are not yet available.

The Site Planner is available on Professional workspaces only. If you're on a Free or Plus plan, you'll need to upgrade to Professional to use it. See How do I access the Site Planner from the dashboard?.

The Site Planner is an aerial view-based measurement and project planning tool designed for landscape professionals. It helps you accurately measure a property, calculate areas, and build measurement-based estimates. What you create in it is called a site plan.

What site plans are used for

  • Accurate measurements - Measure lawns, planter beds, hardscape areas, driveways, and other landscape features
  • Material calculations - Calculate square footage for sod, mulch, pavers, and other materials
  • Project scoping - Quantify work areas for accurate labor estimates
  • Professional proposals - Build detailed, measurement-based proposals for clients
  • Installation planning - Plan material orders and crew assignments with precise dimensions

How the Site Planner works

A site plan uses aerial imagery from satellite views or your own uploaded image. You draw and measure different areas, choose the material or type of work for each space, and the tool calculates totals for you.

Who should use the Site Planner

  • Landscape contractors preparing project bids
  • Maintenance companies calculating service areas
  • Installation crews planning material orders
  • Project managers scoping labor requirements
  • Anyone who needs accurate property measurements for professional estimates

Where to find it: Professional workspaces have a Site Plans item in the left navigation of the dashboard.

Current capabilities

  • Draw and measure areas with precise square footage
  • Choose the material or type for each area (turf, mulch, hardscape, planter beds, and more)
  • Multiple measurement units (imperial and metric)
  • Automatic calculation of totals
  • An irrigation water budget that checks a design against local water allowances (see The irrigation water budget)
  • Save and organize multiple site plans
  • Export a site plan to save or share (see How do I export a site plan?)

Coming in future releases

  • Custom pricing and rate cards for instant estimates
  • Material quantity calculators with waste factors
  • AI-assisted automatic measurements

A note on the name

You may see this tool referred to as Takeoffs in older articles, release notes, or screenshots. It's the same tool — we renamed it to the Site Planner to better describe what it does. The term "takeoff" still describes the measurements themselves, which is what the tool produces.
