Understanding charges on your account

Spot a SimplyScapes charge you did not expect? Learn what each charge means, why one might look unfamiliar, and how to get any charge reviewed fast.

Seeing a charge you didn't expect is stressful, and we want to clear it up fast. The good news is that almost every SimplyScapes charge has a simple explanation. This article walks through what to expect, why a charge might look unfamiliar, and how to get one reviewed if it still doesn't add up.

What charges to expect from SimplyScapes

When you're on a paid plan, you'll see one recurring charge for your subscription:

  • Your plan charge. This is your Plus (or higher) subscription. It bills on a regular schedule based on the plan you chose.
  • Your renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically so your access doesn't get interrupted. The renewal charge lands on the same date each period (each week, month, or year, depending on your plan) for the same amount.

We email a receipt for every payment. Each receipt shows the date, the amount, and the plan, so you can always match a charge on your statement to something specific.

Why a charge might look unfamiliar

Most "wait, what's this?" moments come down to one of these:

  • It's a renewal. If it's your renewal date and the amount matches your plan, that's your subscription continuing as normal, not a new or duplicate charge.
  • A free trial just converted. If you started with a free trial, the first real payment happens when the trial ends. If the trial date slipped your mind, that first charge can feel like a surprise.
  • You have more than one workspace. Each paid workspace is billed on its own. If you (or a teammate) set up two workspaces, you may see two charges that are both legitimate but separate.
  • The name on your statement. The charge on your bank or card statement may read as SimplyScapes or a short version of it, which can look unfamiliar at a glance even when it's your normal subscription.

"I see a charge from an Instagram or Meta ad"

This is a common one, so let's clear it up. An ad on Instagram, Facebook, or anywhere else never charges you on its own. Clicking an ad doesn't take money from your account. Ads only bring you to our site, where you choose whether to sign up.

If you see a SimplyScapes charge and the only connection you can think of is a social media ad you clicked, it almost always means one of these happened:

  • You (or someone using your device or card) started a SimplyScapes subscription or free trial after clicking through, and a trial has now converted to a paid plan.
  • A family member or teammate signed up using your payment method.
  • The charge is your normal renewal, and the ad is just the last SimplyScapes thing you remember seeing.

None of that means you're stuck with a charge you didn't intend. If you didn't mean to subscribe, we'll help you cancel and we'll review the charge. See the next section for exactly what to do.

What to do about a charge you don't recognize

Work through these steps and you'll usually have your answer quickly:

  1. Check your email receipts. Search your inbox (including spam and promotions) for a receipt from SimplyScapes. It will show the date, amount, and plan tied to the charge.
  2. Match the date and amount. Compare the receipt to the charge on your statement. If they match a renewal or a trial-conversion date, the charge is expected.
  3. Look at your Billing page. Log in, click your workspace name in the top-left corner, and open "Billing." You'll see your plan, your status, and your payment history. See How do I view my billing history? for details.
  4. Check for a second workspace or account. If the charge doesn't match the workspace you're looking at, you may have another one that's also on a paid plan.

If it's a duplicate or genuinely wrong, jump to How can I request a refund?, which covers duplicate and erroneous charges and how refunds are issued.

Get any charge reviewed

If you've checked the above and a charge still doesn't make sense, don't worry, we'll look into it with you. Email us at support@simplyscapes.com or use the Help widget at simplyscapes.com and include:

  • The date and amount of the charge
  • How it appears on your statement (and the last four digits of the card, if you have them)
  • A short note on why it looks unfamiliar (didn't expect it, don't recognize it, thought it was from an ad, looks like a duplicate)

We'll track it down, explain exactly what it was, and refund anything that was charged in error. If you'd also like to stop future charges, see How do I cancel my subscription?.
